PSK Entry Contestant #7

This kit comes from Robert an avid Hunter and Outdoorsman. He took the approach of utilizing his EDC to compliment his PSK.

"This is my personal survival pocket kit. The reason I chose to put this kit in the contest is because I wanted to tell people my thought process and what I think makes a good kit. I’ve made kits out of Altoid’s cans and it wasn't what I was looking for. I also see people trying to pack all kinds of items in there personal kit. And let me tell you; you cant pack as much as we would like to in our kits. I have a 72 hour bag and I can't put enough in it. So I look at what I carry everyday (EDC) like my redline flashlight (which is 220 lumens and strobe function), Gerber multi-tool and my 2 Kershaw tactical folders (that’s the reason I do not add cutting tools to my kit, because I carry them in my EDC). You also need to see what you have in your surroundings; like what you have in your car, boat, home etc... You don’t know what would be useful in your time of need like a tie tools, flares, blankets etc. So these things we neglect are the very things we can use in a survival situation. I carry these things on me at all times."

  1. Good Kit, I like that you use the EDC to fill the roles of tools for a survival kit. Free's up precious space.

  2. Why do you carry two of the same knives? I don't see why you need 2.

  3. While I agree that the use of EDC as role filler for a survival kit is a good idea on paper, the main concern that I have is what happens if you are actually in a survival situation. If you end up being left with only the otterbox kit you are left on the short end. I carry my kit along with my EDC folder,multi-tool, flashlight, and lighter. But I still keep redundancies on the occasion that I am stuck with only my kit.

  4. The possibility of me losing two knives is not likely. Thats why I carry two. With a knife, flashlight, and a fire starter you can survive. If you get beyond 3-4 days your in trouble anyway. I also wear a paracord bracelet. My flashlight has a strobe for signaling. So my EDC is pretty much a self contained kit as is.
