2012 In Review: Most Popular Gear Selected by You

Okay so 2012 is in the history books. This has been a good year and hope to make 2013 even better. So I decided to compile a list of the most popular items that you guys selected. This was decided by the number of views each of the items pictured above received. I'll list them out with links for you all that may be interested in getting some of this gear. I mean hey, lets start the New Year off right- with some new gear! I'll also say why I believe these items were so popular.

Also we will be doing another contest next month. This is our first year anniversary and I want to give a thanks to all you guys for your support. We hope to continue growing and offering you loyal guys with fresh stuff. This year we plan to start a membership program. This will be free for anyone and we will offer Black Scout gear for purchase so you guys can show that your part of the crew.

2012 Most Popular Gear:

Ka-Bar Becker BK2 Campanion Fixed Blade Knife This knife is super popular in the survival/bushcraft realm. It's one of the most affordable hard use survival knives on the market. I've always enjoyed using it and its ability to be customized (as I've done). It's affordability and durability makes it great for a beginner or the budget minded.

Canvas Micarta BK2 Grips If you follow the link you will be sent to Amazon which is where I purchased mine. I believe these grips are popular because the affordability of the BK2 as I mentioned above; but also because the stock grivory grips suck. The Micarta grips are excellent and I highly recommend getting some if you have a BK2.

Ontario Blackbird SK-5 The Blackbird SK-5 is one of my favorite production knives. This knife was designed by Paul Scheiter from Hedgehog Leatherworks. The knife features a great steel choice and is of a very simplistic design. All work and nothing more.

Light My Fire Swedish FireKnife People love Mora Knives, People love Swedish Fire Steels. This bad boy came on the scene early in the year and became one of the most sought after knives of the year. It's popularity is a no brainer. It's a great piece for a bug out bag or for a newbie to the craft. I leave my in the truck.

Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Asym The Hennessy Hammock was the second hammock I owned. It's an affordable jungle hammock system. It comes with a tarp, which is a major plus. I believe its simplicity and unique design is what attracts people to it.

Hedgehog Leatherworks BK2 Sheath Hedgehog Leatherworks produce the finest leather sheath I've seen. I have loved everything that they put out. They have a great warranty and are handmade here in the USA. The BK2 is obviously a popular choice because of the major "Beckerhead" following out there.

SURVIVE! Knives GSO-5.1 SURVIVE! Knives came out swinging this year. Offering some of the best prices on Semi-Custom knives. We've reviewed a few in the series and they all continue to impress. We look forward to their future offerings.

Bogota Entry Toolset Some of you guys understand the Urban Survival concept. You also understand that the Bogota's are the no-nonsense entry tool of operators. Lock-bypassing is one of those skills that is "better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it".

Next week I will post my favorite gear of 2012.
